Pre-ionisation


The 316L stainless steel vacuum chamber will have two 6 inch glass port holes one of which will be used to inject microwaves via wave guides and a horn.

The microwave source will be the magnetron and electronics from a domestic microwave and even though the domestic microwave is only rated at 700W that power rating is the average power output, since the microwave is a pulsed device the ouput power when the magenetron is energised is much greater than 700W.

As the pulsed output is synchronised to 50Hz mains power the other electronics driving the tokamak will have to be snychronization to the magnetron output. The magnetron and microwave circuit is shown below:



As part of the pre-ionisation thermionic emission will be used by heating tungsten filaments connected to the KF16 mounted electrical vacuum port shown below:
